2nd October, 2008
The FA Cup is over for the KoolSport NCEL after Winterton Rangers bowed out of the competition on Wednesday.
They were beaten 2-1 in extra time at Northern League outfit Newcastle Benfield in a match that saw five dismissals, three for the home side and two for Rangers.
Red cards were also the order of the day in the other match played on Wednesday as Hall Road Rangers went through to the Second Round of the Presidents Cup despite being reduced to eight men.
After 120 minutes of play, they were 1-1 with visitors Staveley Miners Welfare, Ryan Damms' 68th-minute penalty cancelling out the hosts' opener from Martin Thacker on the half-hour.
Rangers then went through by winning 4-3 on spot-kicks.
Also into the hat for the Second Round are Barton Town Old Boys, Nostell Miners Welfare, Liversedge and Pickering Town.
Barton Town's victory was the biggest shock as the Division One side beat their Premier Division visitors, Armthorpe Welfare, 5-2.
Dean Chapman had put Welfare ahead on 14 minutes but that was quickly cancelled out by Craig Burdick.
Karl Hull and Gareth Barlow gave Barton a 3-1 half-time advantage before Liam Radford brought the away side back into the game.
However, Hull and Barlow both found the net again to complete the win.
Pickering also won by the same scoreline at home to Selby Town with Luke Ibbetson grabbing a brace along with goals from Tom Adams, Liam Salt and Steve Baxter whilst Christian Fox netted both times for Selby.
Barry Rankin, Tom Thornton and Craig Stephens helped Nostell Miners Welfare claim a 3-1 victory at Dinnington Town whose sole goal came from Ant Lynam.
And, Liversedge progressed on penalty kicks at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare.
The visiting Division One side put up a determined performance to claim a 1-1 draw at the Premier Division leaders.
Malc Brown brought them back into the game on 53 minutes after a Jermaine Moyce penalty just before the break had put the home side ahead.
Sedge, though, were victorious, 4-3 in the shoot-out.
Appleby Frodingham are through to the Second Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy with a 3-2 home win over Leeds Carnegie.
James Hare and Lee Everitt had them two up after 39 minutes before John Slater pulled one back five minutes later.
Ryan Oates reclaimed the two-goal advantage on 77 minutes and Slater added his and Carnegie's second in the final moments.
Teversal bowed out of the Notts Senior Cup at the First Round stage as they lost 4-2 on penalties at home to Greenwood Meadows, after playing out a 1-1 draw.
And, in the one League match played in midweek, Arnold Town stormed up into second position in the Premier Division with a 4-1 win against visitors Parkgate with the game being played at Gedling Miners Welfare FC.
Craig Mitchell was the hat-trick hero and David Wilkins grabbed the fourth for the still unbeaten Eagles whilst Parkgate's goal was scored by Chris Spooner.
