NCEL Match Review #21

19th October, 2008

The unpredictability of the KoolSport Northern Counties East League continued on Saturday in both divisions.

The top three in the Premier Division and top four in Division One all failed to win on an afternoon to tear up the form book.

Mickleover Sports' lead at the top of the League has been cut to four points after they were surprisingly beaten 5-1 at home by Armthorpe Welfare who climb to thirteenth in the table as a result.

Henry Sibenge gave Welfare the lead on 15 minutes before Dan Martin levelled the scores just before half-time.

But, the match belonged to Armthorpe after the interval as Gary Jones and Danny Sharpe made it 3-1, then Jones and Sibenge grabbed their second of the afternoon to complete the scoring.

Second-placed Arnold Town gained some ground as they drew 1-1 at home to Bridlington Town.

The Eagles had to come from behind in the game at Carlton Town FC, Craig Mitchell's 53rd minute equaliser cancelling out a 20th minute strike from Chibuzor Chilaka for Bridlington who stay eleventh.

A Chris Coy hat-trick moved Thackley up to sixth as they beat third-placed hosts Pickering Town, 3-2, with Danny Brunton and Luke Ibbetson grabbing the goals for the Pikes.

And, Hall Road Rangers are now fourth after they won 3-0 at bottom side Eccleshill United with Paul Palmer brace sandwiching a Jamie Barnwell strike.

Things are looking desperate for Eccleshill who are still to pick up a point after twelve matches whilst the other side still drawing a blank, Lincoln Moorlands Railway, lost 6-1 at Selby Town.

Josh Langtry got their only goal of the afternoon after Steve Lyon and Tom Reid had put the Robins two up.

Bruno Holden, Brenton Leister, Tom Matthews and Christian Fox then all struck in the last twenty-five minutes to move Selby up into seventh.

Dinnington Town climbed to fifth as goals from Gavin Allott and Ant Lynam earned them a 2-1 win at struggling Nostell Miners Welfare.

Shirebrook Town were denied a move out of the bottom three as an injury time goal from Adam Newton saw hosts Long Eaton United pick up a last gasp 1-1 draw.

Nat Watson had given the visitors the lead with nineteen minutes remaining.

Richard Carrington's goal eight minutes from the end saw Hallam pick up the same scoreline at Parkgate after Ryan Johnson's 69th minute opener for the hosts.

And, a Liam Wilkin brace in the first half-hour gained three points for Brodsworth Welfare in a 2-1 home win over Winterton Rangers.

Division One leaders Scarborough Athletic eight-match winning streak came to an end as they were held at home by Staveley Miners Welfare.

But, they remain unbeaten in fifteen games and are now one point clear after Barton Town Old Boys were beaten by visitors Bottesford Town.

Jamie Smith put Staveley ahead on 23 minutes before an Alex Barnes own goal and Ryan Blott's strike on the hour mark had the Seadogs ahead.

But, Daniel Simpson made it 2-2 with 21 minutes remaining and that's how it stayed in front of a season record crowd of 522.

Barton were behind after three minutes thanks to Michael Nicholson and Craig Bridge put Bottesford two-up before Gareth Barlow halved the deficit on 42 minutes.

John Baross made sure of the points for Bottesford halfway through the second period.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare move up to third after a 1-0 win at Askern Villa who fall to fifth.

And, Pontefract Collieries picked up a point to climb to fourth but were leading 2-0 with eleven minutes remaining at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Sean Hammonds and Josh Stacey had seemingly claimed them a victory before a late Lee Garside double earned an unlikely draw for the visitors.

A ten-minute hat-trick by Steve Kenworthy in the last quarter-of-an-hour saw sixth-placed AFC Emley overcome visitors Rossington Main, 4-1, in a game where the visitors were reduced to nine men by half-time.

Alan Jefferies also took the matchball home as he helped Rainworth Miners Welfare to a 5-0 home victory over bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare, Phil Bignall grabbed the other two goals for the Wrens.

Teversal won 1-0 at Yorkshire Amateur courtesy of a John Spurr own goal but result of the day was at Appleby Frodingham where Leeds Carnegie were 6-0 winners.

Andy Cooper gave them a half-time lead scoring in the last minute of the opening period.

He made it 2-0 on the hour mark before Matt Chiltern and Alex Smith added to the scoreline going into the last ten minutes.

Smith snatched his second and Carnegie's fifth from the penalty spot on 82 before Robert Lavery made it a half-dozen with virtually the last kick of the game.

Despite the big victory, they stay seventh in the table.
