NCEL Match Review #26
7th November, 2008
Selby Town and Liversedge pulled themselves closer to the top two in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division with wins in midweek.
Selby have climbed up to third in a congested top half of the table.
They are three points behind second-placed Pickering Town and six behind leaders Mickleover Sports, after a 2-0 home win over defending champions Winterton Rangers.
They left it late, though, with goals in the last eleven minutes from James McDaid and Steve Lyon.
Rangers drop to eleventh in the table.
And, Liversedge were 3-1 victors over visitors Thackley to stay a point behind Selby.
Nicky Boshell, Shane Kelly and Jermaine Moyce had earned them the win by the first minute of the second period whilst a Martin Brissett penalty on 65 minutes was a consolation for Thackley.
All the rest of the midweek action was in cup competitions with Barton Town Old Boys becoming the last team to seal their place in the Third Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy.
They won 3-2 at Appleby Frodingham with a brace from Lee Geraghty helping them through to a home tie against Staveley Miners Welfare.
And, there was plenty of County Cup action with the best performance of the week coming from Bridlington Town and their striker Chibuzor Chilaka.
He struck five times in their 10-0 home victory against an outclassed St Andrews to take his season's tally in all competitions to 23 goals.
Tom Fleming got two more whilst Phil Harrison, Danny Buttle and Damian Fearn also got themselves on the scoresheet in the East Riding Cup Second Round.
Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Brodsworth Welfare progressed in the three all-NCEL Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup ties.
In the big shock of the round, second half goals from Darren Barrick and Damion Liddle sent Division One Hemsworth through 2-1 at the expense of their visitors, Dinnington Town.
The Premier Division side had taken the lead in the eighth minute with a Dean Conway strike.
A double from Lee Garside helped Worsbrough to a 6-3 win at AFC Emley whilst Josh Giles also struck twice in Brodsworth's 3-1 victory at home to Parkgate.
Rossington Main bowed out despite a battling performance at Worksop Town but Paul Stansfield's 75th-minute goal separated the sides and sent the UniBond League team through.
Hallam's tie at home to Bentley Colliery was abandoned at half-time due to fog with the score at 1-1.
And, in the BUCS Premier League North, Leeds Carnegie were held 2-2 at home by Loughborough University.
