NCEL Match Review #30

21st November, 2008

Nostell Miners Welfare became the sixth KoolSport NCEL side to make it through to the Third Round of the FA Vase in midweek.

A comfortable 4-1 win at home to Northern League outfit Ryton saw the Premier Division side progress.

Graham Marchant and Darren Rushton had them two-up by the break before Marc Walton pulled one back for the visitors halfway through the second period.

But, the game was sealed in the last eight minutes thanks to goals from Craig Stephens and Paul Bedford.

Selby Town and Pontefract Collieries both moved into the Third Round of the League Cup with wins away from home.

Lee Holmes' 80th-minute strike saw Selby go through at the expense of Barton Town Old Boys whilst Kevin Duckworth's late goal earned Pontefract Collieries a 2-1 win at Grimsby Borough.

Arnold Town have moved up to fourth in the Premier Division and remain unbeaten in their home fixtures after a 1-0 victory over Hallam.

In a game that was played at Carlton Town's ground, Chris Freestone's 14th-minute goal was enough for the Eagles to leapfrog over three teams in the table.

A Liam Wilkin brace earned Brodsworth Welfare a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Welfare took the lead in the clash between two sides in the bottom four before Simon Mowbray and Scott Coupland put the visitors ahead by the break.

Wilkin grabbed his second on 66 minutes to force the stalemate.

And, Thackley climbed to eighth with a 2-1 win at Parkgate with Chris Coy and a Martin Brissett penalty finding the net whilst Ashley Longstaff got a late consolation for the hosts.

Just one point separates the top four in Division One after Askern Villa moved up to second with a 2-2 draw at home to Tadcaster Albion.

The home side were two-down after the opening five minutes with goals coming from Matthew Suggitt and Kevin Smith.

But, Villa fought back in the last twelve minutes to get a point with goals from Mark Vickerage and Lee Wilkinson.

Rainworth Miners Welfare are now unbeaten in ten matches in all competitions but remain seventh after a 1-1 draw over visitors Brighouse Town.

Town, who climb one to eleventh with the point, took the lead through Danny Ryan before Phil Bignall levelled matters on 79 minutes.

Mickleover Sports won the all-NCEL clash in the Second Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Goals from Liam Walshe, Dave Middleditch and Karl Ashton saw the progress at the expense of visitors Staveley Miners Welfare.

A Jamie Barnwell hat-trick helped Hall Road Rangers to an 8-2 mauling of Hessle Rangers at Dene Park in the East Riding Senior Cup.

Paul Palmer and Martin Thacker both struck twice and Adam Walker also added his name to the scoresheet in a comfortable night for the Premier Division side.

And, Leeds Carnegie won 4-1 at the University of Lincoln in BUCS Premier League North.
