Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #3

12th August, 2021

Goole AFC and Sherwood Colliery booked their places in the Preliminary Round of this season's Emirates FA Cup with excellent replay victories in midweek.

Goole dramatically won in extra-time at Sunderland Ryhope CW in a match that was 1-1 after ninety minutes after Liam Parker's early opener for the Vikings was cancelled out in the second period by their hosts.

Rhyope then took the lead in the first period of extra-time but Mitchell Pattinson levelled on 108 minutes and Parker then popped up with a dramatic winner two minutes from time to send the Toolstation NCEL side through.

Sherwood Colliery, meanwile, progressed with a single-goal victory at Boston Town, Ryan Ingram netting the decider in first-half stoppage time.

However, there was disappointment in the other two Extra Preliminary Round replays as North Ferriby, despite goals from Thomas Corner and Harvey Carew, were beaten 5-2 at home by Whitley Bay.

And, Luke Stewart put Penistone Church ahead against visitors Lower Breck but the away side scored either side of the interval to take away a 2-1 victory.

There was a welcome return for the League Cup with eight First Round matches in the competition that did not take place last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The big winners were Nostell Miners Welfare who thrashed visitors Shirebrook Town 8-2, Danny Edwards and Anees Younis both grabbing hat-tricks.

Nathan Perks and Joe Wood also found the net for the rampant hosts whilst Keiron Sykes-Tobin and Josiah Robinson were the Shirebrook scorers.

Hall Road Rangers raced into a three-goal lead by the half-hour mark at FC Humber United, Sam Robinson's double sandwiching a Conner Harman strike, before the hosts rallied in the second half but fell just short as Szymon Czubik and Cameron Hall scored in a 3-2 win for the away side.

Samuel Foulds got two of Ollerton Town's goals in a 4-1 triumph at Glasshoughton Welfare, Conor Higginson and Callum Littlejohn also getting on the scoresheet for the visitors whilst Jamie Simpson claimed a consolation for Welfare.

Ryan Barker claimed the only goal of the game as Harrogate Railway Athletic dumped visitors Retford FC out of the competition.

Armthorpe Welfare are also through to the Second Round as Adam Baskerville, Reece High and Alex Varley secured a 3-0 home victory over Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Parkgate were held to a goalless draw by Dronfield Town but the hosting Steelmen won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 to keep themseves in the tournament.

Niall Doran's extra-time winner saw Rossington Main through 3-2 at home to Teversal whilst Martin Pembleton was a similar hero for Brigg Town as they beat visitors Hallam 2-1 after their match was level at a goal apiece after ninety minutes.

There were only three home winners in the eight Premier Division matches that were played with Grimsby Borough, Maltby Main and Winterton Rangers taking the points on their own turf.

Jack Debnam's opener for Borough was cancelled out by Lee Bennett but Richie Burdett claimed the winner in a 2-1 victory with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Main were single-goal victors over Staveley Miners Welfare, Morgan James with the vital strike early in the second period.

And, Rangers left it late to overcome Albion Sports as Luke Anderson and then a Josh Walker penalty secured a 2-0 win in the final ten minutes.

Thackley were winners on their travels, Christopher Lever, Lewis Waddington and Owen Murphy finding the net for them in a 3-0 defeat of Silsden AFC.

There were three draws with Emley AFC finishing 1-1 at home to Garforth Town, James Eyles levelling for the Pewits after a Marcus Haydock own goal had given the visitors a 25th minute lead.

Jason Davis put Hemsworth Miners Welfare ahead at home to Barton Town but Benjamin Hinchliffe made sure the spoils were shared midway through the second half.

And, there were no goals at the Forest Town Arena as AFC Mansfield played out a stalemate with visitors Eccleshill United.
