Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #18

3rd October, 2021

Handsworth's, and therefore the Toolstation NCEL's, participation in this season's Emirates FA Cup is over as they bowed out at the Third Round Qualifying stage on Saturday.

The Ambers were the league's final representatives in this season's competition and they travelled to former NCEL side Pontefract Collieries who are now a division above them in the Pitching In Northern Premier League.

And, Handsworth were unable to cause another upset as three goals were conceded in each half in what was a disappointing 6-0 defeat but Russ Eagle's side deserve to look back at their cup adventure overall with a great deal of justifiable pride.

Elsewhere, the top two met in the Premier Division with Garforth Town and Grimsby Borough playing out a 2-2 draw in a match where the visitors led twice in a bid to extend their lead at the top.

Jack Debnam and Adam Drury put Borough ahead only for equalisers from James Burgess and Daniel Coupland to ensure the gap between the two sides remains at seven points.

A 2-1 home win for Eccleshill United sees the Eagles soar into third with a Jonny Irving brace sealing the win against Goole AFC, Shaun Heselwood with the Vikings' goal.

Ben Johnson's first half strike was added to by a second half penalty from Kieran McCafferey and a third goal from Reece Moody as Bottesford Town won 3-0 at home to Maltby Main and they climb into fourth whilst Main drop to sixth.

A 4-0 loss at Winterton Rangers sees Sherwood Colliery fall to fifth, a Josh Walker first half hat-trick ensuring the win for the hosts who jump into the top half of the table.

AFC Mansfield were beaten 2-0 at Barton Town, Thomas Davie and Thomas Waudby with the Swans' goals for a much-needed win to lift them to sixteenth whilst the Bulls are now seventh.

Two last-gasp goals snatched Silsden AFC a 3-2 victory at Staveley Miners Welfare to lift the Cobbydalers up into eighth, Bradley Riley and then Joseph Mitchell with the dramatic strikes to turn the game completely on its head.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare were 4-1 winners at Athersley Recreation in a bottom two clash that sees them swap positions, Adam Wilson and Jakub Hebda with two each for Hemsworth who climb out of the basement.

Thomas Brennan scored twice for Penistone Church in a 3-1 win at Knaresborough Town whilst Thackley AFC defeated visitors Emley AFC 3-2 to move up into eleventh spot.

Hallam have now notched up ten straight victories in Division One with their 6-1 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic putting them top of the table ahead on goal difference of Brigg Town who were without a game.

Liam Royles claimed his third hat-trick of the season, taking his tally in all competitions to thirteen, whilst Brandon Bradbury netted twice and Iren Wilson also got on the scoresheet as the Countrymen ran wild at the Pinto Property Stadium.

North Ferriby's late comeback sees them stay third, but now only a point off the top, Jason Mycoe and Thomas Corner scoring in the last ten minutes to win 2-1 at Glasshoughton Welfare, the Villagers' eight league victory in a row.

And, fourth-placed Rossington Main kept in touching distance of the top as Jordan Buckham, Zephaniah Thomas and Jack Watson scored in a 3-1 success at Hall Road Rangers.

The other two sides in the top six, Nostell Miners Welfare and Selby Town, lost ground on the leaders with away defeats.

Marcus Day, Joseph Crosby, Rhys Davies and Daniel Thirkell's penalty saw Harrogate Railway Athletic claim a comprehensive 4-0 win over Nostell whilst Selby were beaten 4-3 in a thrilling game at Ollerton Town.

The Robins led 3-1 going into the last twenty minutes but their hosts fought back with George Slack and then a Jacques Etia double giving Ollerton all three points.

Adam Baskerville's hat-trick helped Armthorpe Welfare to a 6-0 win at Dronfield Town who drop to the bottom of the table following Teversal's point at Swallownest in a 2-2 draw.

James Woodhouse rescued a point for Swallownest after Lee Naughton had seemingly given the Tevie Boys a winner in the 57th minute.

FC Humber United led 2-0 at home to Rainworth Miners Welfare by the interval but needed an injury-time equaliser from Cameron Hall to claim a draw after their visitors netted three times in ten minutes midway through the second period.

And, Parkgate were 2-1 home winners over Clipstone whilst there was a 1-1 draw between Retford FC and their visitors Shirebrook Town.
