Barton Town have reached the Third Round of the Buildbase FA Vase for the first time in their history but remain the sole Toolstation NCEL representative in this season's competition after Saturday's matches.

The Swans took part in one of four Second Round ties involving our sides as they travelled to Premier Division rivals Eccleshill United in the only all-NCEL clash.

Benjamin Hinchliffe put them ahead on sixteen minutes before a Talent Ndlovu spot kick ensured the scores were level at the interval.

Hinchliffe's second and then Barton's third from Curtis Bateson gave the visitors a two-goal cushion going into the final quarter-of-an-hour with Sumaili Cissa then pulling one back for the Eagles in a game that finished 3-2 in the away side's favour.

The other three matches saw NCEL sides bow out on their travels with North Ferriby coming closest at North Shields, losing 6-5 on penalties after Daniel East and Jamie Forrester had secured a 2-2 draw for the Villagers who had entered the tournament at this stage.

Jack Varley netted for Winterton Rangers but they went down 3-1 at Prestwich Heys whilst Emley AFC were defeated 2-0 at Newcastle Benfield.

In the Premier Division, leaders Grimsby Borough have extended their advantage at the top to eight points after a 2-1 home win over bottom side Athersley Recreation.

In a match that was much closer than the standings would have suggested, Declan Martin's early strike had the Rec ahead until the last ten minutes when Jack Debnam equalised for the hosts and then Lewis Collins grabbed an injury time winner.

Borough were the only top six side to win with home defeats for second-placed Garforth Town, fourth-placed Handsworth and sixth-placed Bottesford Town.

Garforth were beaten by a solitary goal from Lynton Karkach to give AFC Mansfield a morale-boosting victory whilst Handsworth went down 4-2 at home to Goole AFC with Luke Williams' hat-trick securing the points for the Vikings who move up into eighth.

And, Bottesford were beaten by the same scoreline by Knaresborough Town, Jack Carr with a couple of goals for the visitors who are now fourteenth.

There were two goals each for Nathan Keightley and Reece High in a 4-0 win for Penistone Church at Staveley Miners Welfare and Robbie Fox's 80th minute winner made sure of a 3-2 success for Albion Sports at Silsden AFC.

Lewis Waddington and Kane Swinburn both struck twice for Thackley and Hemsworth Miners Welfare, respectively, in a 3-3 draw at Dennyfield.

Brigg Town's 4-1 home victory over Dronfield Town means they move back to the summit of Division One, leapfrogging FA Vase-focused North Ferriby.

Scott Phillips scored his twentieth league goal of the season to open the scoring with Callum Mawbey making it 1-1 by half-time before Jack Bowskin and a Joshua Batty double claimed the win for the Zebras.

Hallam are a couple of points off the summit in third after Brandon Bradbury and Kieran Watson got their goals in a 2-0 victory at Clipstone.

They go above Rossington Main who were beaten 3-2 by visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with Harley Holt getting the decisive third on 70 minutes.

Despite a couple of Daniel Thirkell penalties, Harrogate Railway Athletic stay fourth after they were beaten 4-2 at Retford FC with Adam Scott twice scoring for the hosts who climb to sixth.

Nostell Miners Welfare drop out of the top six after a 3-1 home loss to Selby Town, Liam Flanagan with a couple of the Robins' goals, and the away side stay eighth just behind their hosts on goal difference.

Swallownest won the battle of two of the bottom three sides as they defeated FC Humber United 2-1 at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium, Harrison Leigh's opener for the hosts cancelled out by James Woodhouse before Alex Lill's winner on 66 minutes.

Rainworth Miners Welfare's second win in a row sees them up into seventeenth as Morgan Boyle's brace helped them to a 3-1 defeat of visitors Glasshoughton Welfare.

Alex Knaggs got the only goal of the game as Hall Road Rangers won at home to Parkgate whilst it was honours even in a local derby between Shirebrook Town and Ollerton Town.

Kenan McKenzie had Shirebrook in front in first half stoppage time but Gavin King made sure of a 1-1 draw with his equaliser with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.
