Barton Town's Buildbase FA Vase adventure came to an end in dramatic fashion on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Ebac Northern League side North Shields.

The Swans were the last Toolstation NCEL representatives in this season's competition and twice came from behind as the tie looked certain to be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Benjamin Hinchliffe had brought them level in the first half and Thomas Waudby grabbed a second equaliser as the game entered stoppage time in the second period.

But, there was to be a further twist as the visitors scored their third deep in injury time to take their place in the Fourth Round.

It was part of a busy afternoon of football that saw a return to action after all of the midweek matches had been postponed due to bad weather.

The top three in the Premier Division all won as the promotion chase heats up as it goes past its halfway stage.

Leaders Grimsby Borough were 3-0 home victors over Thackley to keep five points clear of Eccleshill United who beat hosts Maltby Main 6-1.

Richie Burdett's brace, sandwiching an Owen Davey strike, gave Borough their win whilst the Eagles rebounded back from an opening minute penalty from Johnathan Williams for the hosts to notch up their seventh away victory.

Sumaili Cissa and Jonny Irving had Eccleshill in front by the interval before two from Zackary Sangster and one each from Aiden Day and Emmerson Cox saw them fully dominate the second period.

Garforth Town remain a further two points back in third after a single-goal defeat of visitors Albion Sports, Jed Zanos with a last-gasp penalty deciding the closely-fought encounter.

Sherwood Colliery and Handsworth lose a little ground in fourth and fifth, respectively, after they both tasted defeat, Colliery going down to a 1-0 loss at Penistone Church courtesy of a Kieran Ryan strike that lifts the home side into sixth.

Handsworth, meanwhile, were beaten 4-2 at Winterton Rangers, Jaime Ture grabbing a couple for the hosts who climb to seventh.

There were defeats for the bottom two sides with Athersley Recreation remaining four points adrift in the basement after a narrow 1-0 loss at AFC Mansfield, Lewis Weaver with a late winner for the Bulls.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare, meanwhile, fell to a 4-0 home defeat to Knaresborough Town, Sean Hunter netting twice for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Marley Grant grabbed the decider in a 1-0 win for Staveley Miners Welfare at Emley AFC whilst there was a hat-trick for Jack Normanton in Silsden AFC's 4-3 home victory over Bottesford Town.

In Division One, Shirebrook Town were within touching distance of inflicting the first league defeat of the season on leaders North Ferriby United.

Joshua Parfitt's 37th minute strike put the Derbyshire visitors ahead until Jackson Jowett rescued a point for the Villagers with the game on the verge of second half injury time.

Ferriby's lead at the top has been cut to three points as second-placed Hallam won 6-1 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare with Kieran Watson's hat-trick helping the Countrymen to a convincing victory.

And, Wayne Graves scored midway through the second period to move Brigg Town to seven points off the summit in third with their 1-0 win at Glasshoughton Welfare.

Selby Town and Harrogate Railway Athletic are up to fourth and fifth, respectively, after victories, Daniel Davison with a double for Selby in their 4-0 home success over Rainworth Miners Welfare.

And, second half goals in quick succession for Joseph Crosby and Daniel Thirkell ultimately earned the Rail a 3-2 win over hosts Swallownest.

Rossington Main drop to sixth after a 4-2 defeat at Ollerton Town, Oliver Grady with a hat-trick for the Nottinghamshire side who leap into the top half of the table.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic stay seventh despite a 4-0 home loss to Hall Road Rangers, a brace from Reece Moody helping the visitors to the points that see them up to twelfth.

Matthew Robinson, Liam White and Alex Wonham netted for eighth-placed Retford FC in a 3-1 win at Parkgate and Armthorpe Welfare are up to ninth after a 2-1 home victory over bottom side Teversal, Joshua Burns and Adam Baskerville striking early for them.

And, there was a hat-trick from Daniel Wood and a double from Callum Mawbey as Dronfield Town ran out 5-3 victors at home to next-to-bottom FC Humber United.
