Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #38

19th December, 2021

Grimsby Borough maintained a five point advantage at the top of the Premier Division whilst Division One leaders North Ferriby tasted defeat for the first time on a foggy afternoon in the Toolstation NCEL.

Three games were forced to be abandoned with Garforth Town's home clash with Handsworth in the Premier Division called off at half-time due to the conditions whilst FC Humber United's Division One game with visitors Ollerton Town fell victim after 77 minutes.

Meanwhile, floodlight problems curtailed AFC Mansfield's trip to Penistone Church after 81 minutes in the Premier Division.

Grimsby Borough made sure they would be at the summit going into Christmas with a 3-0 win at Bottesford Town, Thomas Jamieson and Reece York putting them two up by midway through the opening period before Henry Ellis added their third with eighteen minutes remaining.

Second-placed Eccleshill United keep on their coat-tails, however, as they came from behind to beat visitors Emley AFC 2-1 and could cut the gap to two points should they win at home to Handsworth in midweek.

Joe Jagger put the Pewits ahead after eight minutes but a spot kick from Talent Ndlovu levelled the scores early in the second half and Luke Aldrich grabbed what turned out to be the winner just after the hour mark.

Sherwood Colliery claimed a dramatic 4-3 victory over Hemsworth Miners Welfare for the second time this season to tighten their grip on fourth spot.

The visitors went 2-0 up as they eagerly searched for the three points to help them in their quest to escape the bottom two, Layton Swaine and Seon Ripley with the goals, but Colliery brought the scores back level through Gareth Curtis and William Norcross.

Hemsworth took the lead once again, courtesy of Swaine's second, but Curtis netted again to make it 3-3 on 76 minutes before Bradley Newby converted an injury time winner to keep the points in Nottinghamshire.

Winterton Rangers climb to sixth following a 3-1 win at Thackley, Daniel Walker with two of their goals, whilst Samuel Cable's hat-trick helped Goole AFC to a 4-2 victory at Knaresborough Town.

There was also a hat-trick for Jack Normanton as his Silsden AFC's side shared eight goals at Barton Town in an entertaining encounter at the Easy Buy Stadium.

Rieves Boocock, Declan Howe and Jack Dillingham netted for Staveley Miners Welfare in their 3-0 home win over Albion Sports whilst Johnathan Williams' 67th minute penalty secured Maltby Main a 1-0 victory at bottom side Athersley Recreation.

In Division One, Brigg Town won 1-0 at home to North Ferriby in their top three clash to inflict the first loss of the season for the leaders, Scott Phillips' spot kick early in the second half settling a closely-fought encounter.

Brigg remain third but have cut the gap between themselves and the summit to four points whilst second-placed Hallam are two points away from Ferriby after their 1-1 draw at Rossington Main.

The Countrymen were seconds away from a victory that would have seen them return to the top after Christopher Wood had given them a 47th minute lead as William Monteiro netted an injury-time equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Harry Clapham also scored with seconds to spare to claim a 2-1 win for fourth-placed Selby Town at Hall Road Rangers after Liam Flanagan had cancelled out an opener for the hosts from Reece Moody.

And, Harrogate Railway Athletic consolidated fifth spot by beating visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 4-0 with Joseph Crosby getting all of the Rail's goals in the opening period.

An Alex Wonham double helped Retford FC to a 3-0 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare that sees them leapfrog Worsbrough into seventh.

There were two goals for Curtis Williamson as Rainworth Miners Welfare defeated visitors Armthorpe Welfare by the same scoreline whilst Shirebrook Town came from behind to beat visiting neighbours Clipstone 4-1, Kenan McKenzie ensuring the win with a second half brace.

Basement side Teversal picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Nostell Miners Welfare whilst it finished 2-2 between Swallownest and their visitors Dronfield Town.

Meanwhile, there had been two matches in midweek with Curtis Bateson and Thomas Waudby scoring in a 2-1 win for Barton Town at Goole AFC in the Premier Division.

And, despite a goal from the penalty spot from Albert Ibrahimi, Thackley bowed out of the West Riding County Cup with a 5-1 defeat in their Second Round tie at Brighouse Town.
