Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #42

9th January, 2022

Two goals from Bradley Newby helped Sherwood Colliery to a 3-0 victory at Maltby Main on Saturday that moves them into third spot in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

Wayne Savage's side took advantage of postponements for the top three teams due to bad weather to climb closer to the promotion positions with William Norcross the other scorer in one of six top flight games that were played.

Penistone Church and Staveley Miners Welfare claimed home victories that keep them in fifth and sixth, respectively.

A sixth straight victory for Penistone came courtesy of a 5-1 defeat of visitors Albion Sports with Elliott Firth opening the scoring in first half stoppage time.

Brett Lovell's second-half double and a Nathan Keightley strike put them beyond touching distance before Jaydan Sandhu's consolation for the Lions on 89 minutes and a fifth for the hosts from Samuel Scrivens in stoppage time.

Staveley, meanwhile, secured their fifth win and clean sheet in a row as they dispatched Bottesford Town 2-0 at Inkersall Road.

Declan Howe put the Trojans ahead midway through the opening period before Mitchell Langton made sure of the victory twelve minutes from time.

Goals from Mitchell Dunne and Leon Howarth secured Handsworth a 2-0 home win over bottom side Athersley Recreation that moves them up into seventh spot whilst Winterton Rangers jump to eighth after their 4-1 victory over visitors Knaresborough Town.

Luke Anderson's double was added to by Paul Grimes and Daniel Walker for the hosts with Sean Hunter netting late on for their opponents.

And, Emley AFC and AFC Mansfield stay seventeenth and fifteenth, respectively, after a 1-1 draw at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground.

Charlie Smith grabbed a late equaliser for the hosting Pewits after Thomas Cropper had given Mansfield a 52nd minute lead.

In front of another massive crowd at Sandygate, Hallam stretched their lead at the top of Division One to four points with their 4-0 home win over FC Humber United.

787 watched as a James Gregory double and a goal from Kieran Watson gave the Countrymen a three goal cushion by the interval, added to in the 75th minute by Richard Patterson.

Second-placed North Ferriby's stuttering form continued as they suffered their third defeat in four games, Adam Scott's injury time decider snatching visitors Retford FC a 2-1 win that tightens their grip on seventh spot.

Niall Tilsley had given the home side a 24th minute lead but that was cancelled out around the hour mark by Alex Wonham before the late drama settled the tie in the away side's favour.

Brigg Town's 7-0 victory at Clipstone keeps them third but they are now just a point off the top two, Alfie Usher's hat-trick added to by doubles from Dayle Hutson and Joshua Batty.

Harrogate Railway Athletic are now eight points clear in fourth of fifth-placed Selby Town after beating them 4-0 at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium.

Jacob Robertson's fifth minute strike was added to by an own goal around the quarter-hour mark and the Rail extended their lead after half-time through Daniel McDaid and Joseph Crosby.

Nostell Miners Welfare and Parkgate climb into the top ten after victories, Parkgate winning 4-3 at Glasshoughton Welfare with James Stafford's first half brace helping the Steelmen to the three points whilst a couple of penalties from Danny Edwards saw Nostell to a 2-1 home win over Rainworth Miners Welfare.

Jason Short's late equaliser rescued a point for Swallownest in a 1-1 draw at Ollerton Town and Dronfield Town were 3-1 victors at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Samuel Bebbington, Mark Fereday and Callum Mawbey with their goals.

Six games were postponed due to waterlogged pitches - Garforth Town at home to Barton Town, Hemsworth Miners Welfare's trip to Grimsby Borough, Silsden AFC versus visitors Goole AFC, and Eccleshill United's match at Thackley fell foul to the conditions in the Premier Division.

And, Armthorpe Welfare's home clash with Hall Road Rangers, and Rossington Main's game at Teversal were called off in Division One.

Meanwhile, there was a friendly for Shirebrook Town who were beaten 7-1 by Belper Town at Langwith Road.
