There were twists in both of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and Division One title races on a cold, wet and blustery Saturday afternoon.Grimsby Borough and
Hallam both tasted defeat and saw their leads at the top of the respective divisions cut to three points.
Borough fell to a 4-0 loss at
Winterton Rangers with Josh Walker's hat-trick taking him to 25 goals for the season in all competitions and Gareth Barlow also getting on the scoresheet for the hosts who move up to seventh in the table.
There were also three goals for Aiden Day as second-placed
Eccleshill United narrowed the gap with a 4-1 home win over
Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
Tabish Hussein also netted for the Eagles whilst Jason Davis got the consolation for Welfare who stay a point above the relegation zone.
Garforth Town lost a little ground in third spot with a 2-2 home draw with
Silsden AFC, Daniel Coupland twice levelling for the Miners after Josimar Bradshaw had put the visitors ahead on both occasions.
Fourth-placed
Sherwood Colliery kept their hopes of a top-two finish alive with a 1-0 win over
Albion Sports at Debdale Park, Timothy Gregory snatching the winner with six seconds remaining, leaving their visitors stuck in the bottom two.
Draw specialists
Barton Town picked up their twelfth stalemate in 26 league matches as a late equaliser from Nathan Keightley from visitors
Penistone Church saw the game end 1-1 after Curtis Bateson's penalty had put the Swans ahead in the first half.
Emley AFC and
Maltby Main were winners on their travels with George Doyle's early strike earning Emley the points in a single-goal victory at
Handsworth whilst Maltby defeated hosts
Thackley 3-1.
Main came from behind in the final half-hour to take the points, firstly with a penalty from Johnathan Williams, and then with goals from Joseph Austin and Robert Chipps.
Jack Cross netted an 87th minute winner for
Bottesford Town as they prevailed 2-1 at home to
AFC Mansfield whilst a double from Tyler Dunn helped
Staveley Miners Welfare to a 4-1 defeat of visitors
Goole AFC.
In Division One, table-toppers Hallam went down to a remarkable 5-4 defeat to
Parkgate at Sandygate in front of the day's biggest crowd of 614.
Iren Wilson put the Countrymen ahead only for Brandon Bagley and Thomas Whiting to ensure the visiting Steelmen were ahead by the interval.
Whiting then made it 3-1 in Parkgate's favour on 51 but Wilson's second on the hour and then Liam Royles' double saw Hallam turn the game on its head to lead 4-3 going into the last five minutes.
But, there was further drama as Jack Bancroft levelled the scores once more and, in stoppage time, Alex Rippon popped up to get a breathtaking victory for Parkgate who climb to eighth in the table.
The chasing pack all took advantage of
Hallam's stumble with
North Ferriby,
Brigg Town and
Harrogate Railway Athletic all winning in the top four.
Daniel East's penalty for Ferriby claimed a 1-0 home victory over
Dronfield Town and they are now three points off the summit whilst third-placed Brigg won by the same scoreline at
Rainworth Miners Welfare, Thomas Johnston with the winner, to remain a further point behind.
And, the Rail have opened up an eight point gap on those below them in fourth with a 3-0 win at
Clipstone, Mike Morris, Daniel McDaid and Rhys Davies finding the net at the Lido Ground.
Selby Town and
Retford FC move closer to the play-off zone as Selby beat visitors
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 5-0, Liam Flanagan with a hat-trick, and Retford won 2-1 at basement side
Teversal with Matthew Parkin grabbing a 76th minute decider.
There were single-goal victories for
Nostell Miners Welfare and
Shirebrook Town, Nicholas Lalousis netting for Nostell at home to
FC Humber United whilst Shirebrook extended their unbeaten run to seven games with Nathan Jessop the matchwinner against visitors
Hall Road Rangers.
And, the day's only goalless draw came at the FastFrame where
Ollerton Town and
Glasshoughton Welfare failed to break the deadlock.
