Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2021/22 #67

24th April, 2022

North Ferriby have secured a place in next season's Toolstation NCEL Premier Division whilst Brigg Town recovered from their Division One play-off disappointment by winning the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.

Ferriby, who finished second in the Division One table, entertained fourth-placed Harrogate Railway Athletic in what was an absorbing Play-Off Final at the Dransfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon in front of a mammoth 1,442 crowd.

The hosting Villagers had the perfect start when Oliver Donald gave them a second minute lead but Marcus Day brought the visitors back in to the game early in the second period.

Danny Clarke restored Ferriby's advantage midway through the half only for the Rail to almost immediately restore parity for a second time, courtesy of Fatlum Ibrahimi.

Niall Tilsley put the home side ahead once more with what proved to be the winner in a 3-2 victory for Chris Bolder's side who join champions Hallam in a well-deserved move up to the Premier Division.

Brigg, who fell at the Semi-Final stage last weekend to the Rail, ended their season on a high with a 1-0 win over Premier Division side Winterton Rangers in their all-NCEL County Cup Final on Wednesday night.

The Lincolnshire Senior Trophy tie took place at Scunthorpe United's Sands Venue Stadium and, with 1,107 spectators watching on, Scott Phillips grabbed the only goal of a tight game in the 62nd minute.

That took his tally to 44 for the season in all competitions, making him the NCEL's top scorer for the season, pipping Rangers' Josh Walker who ends the campaign on 43.

And, we now know who will face each other in next month's Toolstation NCEL League Cup Final at Doncaster Rovers' Eco-Power Stadium as Barton Town and Garforth Town won midweek Semi-Finals.

Mitchell Levi-Lewis' penalty in first half stoppage time was enough for Barton as they won 1-0 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.

And, Garforth prevented Premier Division champions Grimsby Borough from getting a league and cup double as they defeated them on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Owen Davey had Borough ahead on 41 minutes but Sam Denton equalised after the interval and that is how stayed until the end of extra-time with the hosting Miners then winning 5-4 in the shoot-out.

The Final takes place on Tuesday 3rd May, 2022, with a 7:45pm kick-off.
