Seadogs To Help Local Charities
23rd July, 2008
Scarborough Athletic FC is giving supporters the chance to help out local charities in the form of an innovative new advertising idea.
The club is giving over space in the award-winning match programme to local charities, with the space being paid for with donations from supporters.
Supporters will also be able to choose the local Scarborough charities they wish to be offered the advertising.
Club Communications and Marketing Director James Hunter said: "We as a club are always looking to be active in our community, and what better way than to help numerous local charities by donating advertising in our match programme to them for free?"
"The idea came from a generous supporter offering ?50 for an advert, without him having a business to actually advertise. We took it on from there and are now looking to raise enough to fill one or maybe even two pages with charity ads."
Fans can become involved by pledging as little or as much as they wish towards the advertising space. Fans who contribute will also be asked to name the charities they wish the club to approach, and will have their name appear in the programme throughout the season.
The Boro programme was named as Northern Counties East League Division One Programme of the Year last season, and was also given the same honour by the Soccer Club Swap Shop. The programme will sell around 7,500 copies during 2008-09.
