Day Calls It A Day - UPDATE

16th October, 2008

The KoolSport NCEL's basement side, Glasshoughton Welfare, are now on the search for their third manager of the season.

It's after Wayne Day resigned as first team boss following Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Askern Villa.

He was at the helm of the club for just over a month after he succeeded Dave Holmes on the 9th of September.

In spite of introducing a number of new players to the club, Day was unable to reverse the Leeds Road outfit's poor run of results and Glasshoughton are still searching for their first win of the season.

But, Day has claimed that he left due to the "negative attitude and interference" he encountered behind-the-scenes.

He said: "Players and Management alike were happy with the progress considering the vast change in personnel over the month and, with further signings in the pipeline, everyone expected fortunes to improve considerably in the very near future.

"However, the negative attitude and interference from some quarters ultimately left me no alternative than to resign.

"Obviously, my plans for the club and my opinion of the quality of players brought in differed from those of others and we were left with no solid ground on which to move forward.

"Despite this, I would like to wish Glasshoughton Welfare every success for the future."

Reserve and Under 19 managers, Phil Riding and Gary Bostock, have taken charge whilst the search for a new boss gets underway.
