Big Switch On At Hemsworth
16th October, 2008
The long awaited switch on of Hemsworth Miners Welfare's floodlights will take place this evening.
It will only be for testing purposes but there are no anticipated snags.
The Wilkinson Sword Trophy game against Teversal on Tuesday night will be the first game under the brand new lights and Hemsworth are expecting a bumper crowd.
A club spokesperson said: "It's been a hard slog to get through all the red tape etc. but, finally, we are in touching distance of floodlit football.
"The lights consist of six pylons with three down each side, there are 16 lamps in total giving a lux value of 220 and the lights can be upgraded at any time."
Meanwhile, centre forward Darren Barrick has rejoined Hemsworth from a spell at UniBond League side, Wakefield F.C. where he couldn't be guaranteed a first team place.
Hemsworth joint manager Paul Crapper said: "Darren is a welcome addition to the squad.
"He looks fitter than ever and will give the Welfare a different option up front.
"Darren is a typical old style centre forward who also has pace. He came on at half time at the weekend against Barton Town Old Boys and made an immediate impression.
"He can't wait to get into regular action."
