Benefit Match for Ex-Player
18th April, 2009
Hemsworth Miners Welfare are to stage a benefit match for an ex-player who has lost part of his leg due to diabetes.
John Beaumont managed to play over 400 games for the club during 1980s and 90s despite being diagnosed with the condition when he was seven years old.
He turned out in every position during his time there even in goal.
Recently, however, he has had his leg amputated from just below the knee.
A Hemsworth Miners Welfare Select XI, consisting of players who were John's team-mates, will take on AFC Beeches Over 35s in a game to raise money for him.
It will take place at the Fitzwilliam Stadium on Monday 4th May with an 11am kick-off.
Secretary Mark Crapper said: "The club would like to wish John all the very best for the future and we hope to have a fantastic day."
