Haley handed Humber hotseat

14th November, 2021

David Haley has been appointed the new manager at Toolstation NCEL Division One side FC Humber United.

The former Ossett Albion manager, who also had a spell with Liversedge in the NCEL Premier Division, brings a wide range of experience having been at the helm of clubs between Steps 4 and 6 of the FA's National League System.

He has also had success with professional youth teams at Bradford City, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town as well as with Sherburn White Rose in the feeder leagues.

Humber will hope his arrival will signal a reversal of fortune and a move up the Division One table although Haley will now be under no illusions as to what needs to be done after his first game in charge on Saturday ended with a 7-1 loss at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

That defeat sees the side drop into the bottom two.

Haley's appointment was announced prior to the game, with the club saying: "We welcome Dave in joining FC Humber United as first team manager, thus offering a fresh and vibrant outlook on the management of the club.

"A UEFA A-Licensed Coach, Dave brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge from his twenty plus years in the sport and we feel Dave identifies as the ideal candidate moving forward in leading FC Humber United.

"Breaking down his coaching style, four key principles were identified; how we play out from the back, defending in the fight zone, our transition game and re-active pressing in the final third.

"Within the playing style, all Dave asks of his players is to be brave; get on the ball in possession, and work very hard out of possession.

"With the recent additions implemented, the club very much look forward to working alongside Dave and feel strongly that his methods and approach align with that of the club."

Haley added: "I am delighted to have been appointed as manager of FC Humber United, a very ambitious club that is on a very exciting journey.

"I feel that I have the right knowledge and experiences within the game to make sure the journey goes in the right direction.

"It will however be a big challenge; our league position isn’t the best, but it is a challenge that I am looking forward to.

"At this moment in time, we are currently assessing the squad to see if we need any players to strengthen our team in our pursuit to climb the table.

"Our players now need to respond to the chance they have been given, and prove to the new management team that they have the ability, the energy and drive to play for FC Humber United and come with us on our journey.

"Moving forward in the short-term, I aim to assess the squad and strengthen it, if required, to ensure FC Humber remains and compete at this level.

"Looking to the long-term, I aim to build a team capable of being promoted to the NCEL Premier Division.”
