The Future's Bright For Winterton
27th October, 2008
Winterton Rangers have begun work on the installation on a brand new set of floodlights at their West Street ground.
The old ones have been removed and preparations have been made for the new columns.
Funding for this latest improvement was secured by Chairman Dave Crowder earlier this year from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and North Lincolnshire Council, supplementing the funds raised by the club.
The original floodlights were erected in 1978 after Rangers won the national six-a-side Philips Floodlight Cup competition. They were opened with a friendly against Sheffield United.
Assistant Secretary, Brian Crowder, said: "The lights on top have been replaced over the years but the columns have come to the end of their time.
"Work started last Monday and thanks to Mickleover Sports for swapping Saturday's game to their ground. We will be ready for the next home game against Hallam."
He continued: "We are very excited, and look forward to the big switch on.
"The lamps will have an average of 250+ lux which is near Conference standards.
"We are looking to arrange an official opening for them very soon."
